Lord, have mercy

faithgainesville

Lord, have mercy! It is a prayer those who trust in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, have been praying since the beginning. We saw it when we read Matthew 9:27-31. Two blind men are in great need, they were blind and they knew Jesus was passing by. They cried out, "Have mercy on us, Son of David." Have mercy!

We pray this prayer with them every Sunday just as the Church as done for thousands of years. In our tradition it is called Kyrie Eleison--meaning Lord, Have mercy.

Do you recognize it? I'll post some of it below because in this age we NEED to be praying it often and praying it together. When we do we know our gracious Father in Heaven will hear our prayers and indeed have mercy. Why do we know...because He has had mercy already in the gift of His beloved Son through whom we have forgiveness, real and true forgiveness, hope, life and salvation. In Jesus we have already received mercy. So pray with us...

For the peace from above and for our salvation let us pray to the Lord.

LORD, HAVE MERCY.

For the peace of the whole world, for the well-being of the Church of God and for the unity of all let us pray to the Lord.

LORD, HAVE MERCY.

Help, save, comfort and defend us gracious Lord.

Amen
